As part of our commitment to improving campus connectivity, Information Technology Services (ITS) is transitioning personal devices to the UISPreauth wireless network. This new network replaces UISBYOD and offers enhanced compatibility for a wider range of personal devices, including gaming consoles, smart TVs, and other devices that cannot connect to UISWifi. The UISBYOD network will be turned off on July 22.
The UISBYOD network, introduced early in our Wireless Network Upgrade project, presented some connectivity limitations for certain devices. The UISPreauth network has been developed to provide a more reliable and inclusive solution.
If you have a device connected to the UISBYOD network, please follow the instructions below to migrate your device(s) to the UISPreauth network.
To use UISPreauth:
- Open the PreAuth Login Page (not on the device you are trying to connect)
- Log in with your NetID and Password
- Choose Pre Shared Keys (New WiFi) from the menu on the left. On a mobile device, tap the menu button in the upper left corner and select Pre Shared Keys (New WiFi).
- Once you have created your IPSK, you will connect your device(s) to the network named UISPreauth and enter the passphrase.
- Please note that while your passphrase may be used for multiple devices you own, you may not share your passphrase with other users. You will be able to return to this page to review your passphrase (for example, if connecting additional devices at a later time).
Note: Pre Shared Keys are set to expire annually on May 31st. Starting June 1 of every year you must create a new Pre Shared Key.
For more information about the UISPreauth network, please visit the PreAuth Network - Connecting knowledge base article.
For any questions about the UISWiFi upgrades and changes or if you need assistance connecting your device(s), please contact the ITS Help Desk at techsupport@uis.edu or call them at (217)206-6000.
